Wasp Queen

The queen wasp is the first wasp you will see in early spring time when she is searching for a suitable nesting site to build her nest. It is up to the queen to build a new nest and start a new colony after winter. She has yellow and black stripes, triangular head and sting of the smaller workers. The queen is up 25 mm in length, worker wasps are 11 - 14 mm in length. Wasps are attracted to sweet food and beverages so will often wander indoors in search for these items. Wasp nests are usually only seen as tiny entrance holes, usually underground but also in cavities in walls and trees.
